Where to Meet

Pittsburgh has plenty of unique venues to accommodate gatherings that don’t require the large spaces in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center―or provide a change of pace for those that do. These meeting destinations reveal the many sides of Pittsburgh, from our rich cultural heritage to our modern green buildings to our breathtaking skyline and river views.

Downtown, the Cultural District and the Strip District

Downtown Pittsburgh is a compact and walkable area. These venues are easy to get to on foot from any Downtown hotel. Group transportation to any of these venues also can be arranged.

August Wilson Center for African American Culture

This newly opened 80,000-square-foot facility is located just steps from the Convention Center in the Cultural District The sophisticated, modern space is available for meetings, receptions, parties and performances in its galleries, classrooms and 486-seat theater. The Center reflects all aspects of African-American culture and is named for Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright and Pittsburgh native August Wilson.

Benedum Center for the Performing Arts

If the mood for your next event calls for a posh setting and crystal chandeliers, this historical theater could be just the place. This former movie palace, now refurbished to be one of Pittsburgh’s prime cultural destinations, features a 2,889-seat theater and three large reception areas. Find it in the heart of the Cultural District.

Byham Theater

Here is the Cultural District’s answer for small- and mid-size arts groups and others who can take advantage of its 1,302-seat theater and ample reception space. Pittsburgh’s only remaining Vaudeville house, this intimate, rococo-appointed theater is now owned and operated by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

Consol Energy Center

Location: Downtown

When you’re inside the nation’s first environmentally friendly hockey arena, you get to see the most beautiful city skyscraper in the country. Home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the arena’s capacity―18,087 for hockey―honors Sidney Crosby’s number 87. This Downtown venue will hold up to 19,758 for special events.

Heinz Hall

Location: Downtown

Renowned for its grandeur and excellent acoustics, this 2,661-seat theater offers a number of smaller rooms that accommodate 40 to 250 guests. The cornerstone of the Cultural District, this elegantly restored concert hall is home to the Pittsburgh Symphony, Broadway performances and major corporate meetings.

Senator John Heinz History Center

Location: Strip District

At the edge of the Strip District, just bordering Pittsburgh’s Downtown, the center celebrates more than 250 years of Western Pennsylvania history. Here are exceptional spaces, such as the 5,800-square-foot Great Hall, where guests mingle among rare exhibits. Galleries and board rooms provide intimate and interesting meeting spaces for smaller groups. The Smithsonian wing is a LEED-certified green building.

Society for Contemporary Craft

Location: Strip District

Cutting-edge artwork displayed in warm contemporary decor creates a light mood in this Strip District venue. Set your event in the lobby space near the galleries or in the education center. The space comfortably accommodates 250 people for a cocktail-style reception or up to 65 for a seated dinner.

Space Gallery

Location: Downtown

Operated by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust in the Cultural District, this gallery space is suitable for small cocktail parties, business meetings and receptions. The setting is always fresh, with rotating exhibits featuring artwork in different media.

North Side and North Shore

This Pittsburgh neighborhood was once known as Allegheny City and was home to mansions built by industrial tycoons. Today, the area is called the North Side of Pittsburgh. Its waterfront district, along the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers, is known as the North Shore. Some of these venues are within walking distance of Downtown hotels.

Andy Warhol Museum

Picture your event at the Andy Warhol Museum, a seven-story tribute to one of Pittsburgh’s most famous native sons. The Warhol provides a glamorous, sophisticated venue for dinners, cocktail parties and lectures. Accommodates up to 500.

Carnegie Science Center

Spaces that accommodate up to 350 guests include a reception area with river views and an Omnimax Theater. Plus, events can be made “green” with organic drinks and compostable serving ware.

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh

Enjoy the magnificence of the Grand Hall of the Buhl Building, which accommodates 300, or rent one or more of the Museum’s exhibit areas, including Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. The museum’s expansion project is a LEED-certified green building.

Heinz Field

Want a true taste of this sports town? Heinz Field is the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football teams, and you can include current or former players on your guest list when you hold your event here. Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild

Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild―a center for jazz, the arts and education―provides a state-of-the-art 350-seat concert hall, suitable for concert productions, corporate meetings, awards ceremonies or receptions. Meeting rooms, a boardroom and a conference center offer classroom-style space.

Mattress Factory―A Museum of Contemporary Art

Hailed as the best facility for installation art in the United States, this one-of-a-kind museum is housed in converted warehouse space. The open industrial interior can be decorated as needed for your reception, meeting, luncheon or dinner. A flexible rental program allows for your choice of caterer.

National Aviary

Host your event at the National Aviary, the nation’s premier bird zoo, and mingle with more than 600 exotic and endangered birds. New Hazlett Theater

Built in 1889, this restored theater is fully equipped, professionally staffed and available for arts events, conferences, seminars and other private events. The theater is part of a historic landmark that also houses one of the country’s first Carnegie Free Libraries.

PNC Park

Make your event a “grand slam” at this home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, which is considered among the best ballparks in the nation. Small groups of up to 100 can set sail on this climate-controlled vessel, which comes equipped with a stereo, wireless microphone system, covered outdoor observation deck, and catering galley. Customized programs include freshwater ecology, bridge and island history, and lock and dam excursions.

Oakland and East

Less than three miles east of Downtown Pittsburgh, Oakland is the region’s academic and health-care hub. This bustling urban and cultural center features beautiful green spaces, campuses, museums, historic buildings and public art. Group transportation can be arranged.

Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, and Carnegie Music Hall

Monroeville Convention Center

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum

The University Club of Pittsburgh

This historic building has housed the private club since 1923 and is a full-service conference and banquet facility, with two ballrooms and eleven meeting rooms. This newly renovated and elegant location provides state-of-the-art capabilities.

The Bost Building

Location: Homestead

This national historic landmark is the best surviving structure associated with the 1892 Battle of Homestead, the famous steel labor strike. The modern boardroom is perfect for small meetings and for guests interested in the region’s steel heritage.

Urban Mountain Gathering Place

Location: Mt. Washington

Perched atop Mt. Washington, this meeting facility features a view of the rivers and Downtown Pittsburgh that will awe, inspire and motivate. The Gathering Place can accommodate as many as 30 people in a conference-style setting, up to 50 in theater-style, and as many as 80 for a reception.
